The City of Champions Stadium began construction in December 2015, which means it is scheduled to open in 2019, prior to the beginning of that season. The Rams, who moved back to Los Angeles from St. Louis shortly after the Super Bowl, will play their next two seasons in the LA Coliseum.
"We began discussions with local leaders almost immediately after the vote on how to bring the Super Bowl to Los Angeles," Rams executive vice president of football operations said, "We've continued those discussions with the NFL, and we're excited by the opportunity to bid for either 2020 or 2021. We recognize there are a lot of great candidates who have already bid, and we're working quickly to make sure that Los Angeles' bid can be considered and we can return the Super Bowl to Southern California and Englewood."
Houston will host Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, on Feb. 5, 2017, and Minnesota will host Super Bowl LII in the new U.S Bank Stadium, scheduled to open this year, on Feb. 4, 2018. The site for Super Bowl LIII, Super Bowl LIV and Super Bowl LV will be decided during the NFL spring meetings in May.
New Orleans, Tampa, Miami and Atlanta are the four finalists to host Super Bowl LIII in 2018. Only three of those four teams are also the four finalists to host Super Bowl LIV - New Orleans is only up for bid for Super Bowl LIII. If Atlanta is chosen, it will be the first Super Bowl held at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2017.
