Could The Browns be Headed in the Right Direction?

The Cleveland Browns have been known lately for being, well, the Browns.  Their name has basically become a synonym for losing.  They have fired coaches left and right.  To sum up the Browns perfectly remember this one little factoid; Cleveland fired Bill Belichick.  Yes, the four time Super Bowl winning head coach who has coached the New England Patriots to six Super Bowls and won four of them was fired by the Cleveland Browns.

This off-season the Browns however decide to hire Cincinnati Bengals assistant, Hue Jackson.  Hue Jackson coached the Oakland Raiders for the 2011 season and lead them to an 8-8 record. He was, however, still fired by the Raiders after tying their 2010 season record which is also the best record the Oakland Raiders have had since they played in the Super Bowl against the Buccaneers in the early 2000's.  Hue Jackson has now been given his chance and it looks like he will take full advantage of it.

The Cleveland Browns are usually known for drafting a quarterback in the first round of the draft who might not be fully ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.  At the very least these quarterbacks need to be developed but Cleveland doesn't have the depth or the consistency at coaching to ever seem to do this.  The Browns this time did not go right for quarterback.  They drafted Corey Coleman out of Baylor, it would appear the Browns like receivers out of Baylor.

The Browns were able to get a lot of draft picks this draft after the Eagles decided to throw a bunch Cleveland's way so that they could get the number two pick.  The Browns gladly accepted these picks and could use them well when it comes to building their team.

The next pick they get was the first pick of the second round which was the 32nd pick overall, basically a first round pick and they drafted first round talent with it.  Emmanuel Ogbah is a defensive end who weighs 275 lbs and runs a 4.6 40 time.  He describes himself as a relentless pass rusher and the Browns could definitely use him.

What do the Browns do with the next pick?  Draft another defensive end to probably play opposite of Ogbah in Carl Nassib from Penn State.  He has worked hard his whole life to play in the NFL, Nassib walked on to Penn State and personally sent them his game film in the mail from high school where he never started.  If Nassib keeps up his work ethic, he could be dangerous on Cleveland.

The Browns looked for someone to protect their quarterback in offensive tackle, Shon Coleman out of Auburn.  If RG3 is the starting quarterback for the Browns he will appreciate his lineman keeping him off the IR list. The Browns decided to finally go quarterback in the third round and picked up Cody Kessler from USC.  USC has not had the best history of quarterbacks in the NFL but Cleveland is hoping he is more Palmer than Leinart.

Cleveland makes some great draft picks but I think one of their best pickups was their last one.  Scooby Wright III from Arizona was one of the best linebackers in college football.  He had a rough 2015 season, only playing three games due to a torn meniscus in his knee.  (This draft seemed to be full of linebackers with injured knees; Jaylon Smith, Myles Jack, and Scooby Wright III) Wright could end up being one of the best drafted players by the Browns and they got him in the seventh round.  That's crazy.

Knowing the Browns next season could be the same old story.  However, if Hue Jackson is given the chance they have potential for the next few years.  I almost dare say that the Browns could become a dangerous team in a few years.  Only time will tell.  What do you think Cleveland fans?
