Mike DeVito Retires

Former New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Mike DeVito retires from the NFL after 10 seasons.  He spent his first six seasons with the New York Jets and then signed with Kansas City in the 2013 off-season. He has played well for the Chiefs in 2013 and 2015, but spent most of the 2014 season on injury reserved.

DeVito was never a major part of the Chiefs defense but was a decent role player that did well at stopping the run but was always taken out in obvious passing situations.

So obviously he isn't the best against the pass.  In the Chiefs defense they prefer more of the Outside Linebackers bringing the pass rush while the defensive line is helpful stopping the rush.  Kansas City has younger players on their defensive line so that is probably why they did not put a lot of effort into resigning DeVito.

DeVito is now 31 and did express interest in continue playing in the NFL.  I assume that there wasn't a lot of interest in signing him to any team so he probably felt like it was time to retire.  Best of wishes to you DeVito from this Chiefs fan.
