The Story of the 2015 Kansas City Chiefs

Picture this. on Oct, 18, 2015 the Kansas City Chiefs just lost their fifth straight game, Jamaal Charles is out for the season and backup Charcandrick West just fumbled the ball to lose to the Vikings after the offense looked dreadful.  You would never believe this team, this Chiefs team without their best offensive play maker would be about to rattle off 10 straight wins and win their first playoff game in 22 years?

People are debating how they did this. How is it possible that this Chiefs team who lost to the Broncos, Packers, Bengals, Bears, and Vikings all in a row went on to a great winning streak and taking second place almost first place in the AFC West?

The Chiefs did this because they have the best game manager in the league in Alex Smith and one of the best defenses in the league.  Kansas City forced other teams to turn the ball over and rarely turned the ball over themselves.  After West fumbled in the Vikings game he made a deal with Jamaal Charles and never fumbled again.  They also brought in power running back Spencer Ware that could punish defenders trying to tackle him.

The best example of this style of Chiefs play would be in their playoff win against the Houston Texans.  The Chiefs defense was constantly in Brian Hoyer's face making him make mistake after mistake and the Chiefs offense took a little while to truly capitalize on this but they finally did near the end and put the game out of reach for a team led by Hoyer, who was then to rattled to be effective at all.

Everyone focused on how bad Hoyer looked but nobody really looked at how good the Chiefs defense was playing to shut him down.  Obviously Hoyer is not the best quarterback in the league by any means, but Kansas City made him look like he never belonged in the NFL.

Heading into the 2016 season the Chiefs hope to capitalize even more off of the 2015 season and find their way to the Super Bowl.  Only time will tell how they actually will do but they should be very competitive in a very tough AFC West come 2016.
