The Bad; It was announced that Justin Houston could wind up missing the entire 2016 season due to an injury he suffered in 2015. Kansas City also lost one of their best corners in Sean Smith to their division rival Oakland as well as one of their best safeties, Hussain Abdullah, retiring earlier this off-season that caught them off guard. Chiefs also lost part-time safety in Tyvon Branch to the Cardinals, he might have only been a part time player for them in 2015 but he could have helped out due to the loss of Abdullah.
The Ugly: In the off-season following the 2014 season the Kansas City Chiefs signed Jeremy Maclin to a big contract to make up for the fact that they had zero receivers catch a touchdown pass in 2014. According to the NFL tampering rules the Chiefs had made illegal contact with Maclin before they were supposed to. This resulted in fines to Andy Reid, the Chiefs organization and the GM John Dorsey. The Kansas City Chiefs also lose their third round pick in the 2016 NFL draft and their sixth round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Kansas City has appealed this punishment. They have drafted some of their best players in the third round in recent years, including but not limited to, Justin Houston, Jamaal Charles and Travis Kelce.
