The Story of the 2015 Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2015 season can be characterized by one key phrase: Next man up. They dealt with suspensions and injuries more than any other team in the league, but still finished with a playoff berth.

The season began with star running back Le’Veon Bell suspended for the first two games. But after a tough loss week one to the defending champion New England Patriots, they rebounded with a huge win over San Francisco.

In week three, franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his left knee against the Rams and was carted off the field. Quarterback Michael Vick came on to finish the game, as well as start the next two.

However, in week six against Arizona, the mentality struck again when third string QB Landry Jones came in to replace Vick. Without missing stride, he threw two TD’s in the second half to lead them to victory.

Roethlisberger returned in week eight, but Bell went down the same week with a torn MCL, and was sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Roethlisberger went down again in week nine, bringing back Jones, before Jones went down with injury in week 10, bringing back a banged up Roethlisberger.

Pittsburgh then won four of their last five games to finish 10-6, behind Big Ben’s arm and the resurgent De’Angelo Williams, to clinch the final playoff seed.

Then, in one of the best and most turbulent games of the season, Pittsburgh bounced back in their first round game against Cincinnati to steal a first round victory. However, they fell in the AFC divisional round to the eventual champion Denver Broncos.

While young stud wide receiver Martavis Bryant has been suspended for 2016, with the trio of Roethlisberger, Bell, and wide receiver Antonio Brown, the offense will be one of the best in football. If they sure up some weaknesses on defense, there is no reason they can’t content for the Lombardi trophy in the 2016-2017 season.
